Gordon GibsonGordon F. Gibson was born in Vancouver in 1937. He attended the University of British Columbia (B.A., Honours, Mathematics and Physics '59) and Harvard Business School (MBA, Distinction '61), and subsequently did research work in political science at the London School of Economics. He has been involved in a number of businesses, including prefabricated buildings, hotels, and real estate development, and has served on the boards of several public companies. In politics, he served as Assistant to the Minister of Northern Affairs (1963-68), was Executive and later Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (1968-72), and ran in three federal elections. He was elected to the Legislature of B.C. in 1974, and served as both MLA and Leader of the B.C. Liberal Party (1975-79). Since then, he has been active in both business and public affairs in western Canada, including 12 years on the Canada West Council. With Canada West, he co-authored Regional Representation (1981), authored What if the Wheels fall off?: The Case for a Constituent Assembly (1992), and served on the Task Force on National Unity (1991-93). Gordon Gibson is Senior Fellow in Canadian Studies at The Fraser Institute, and is a regular newspaper columnist.
