MEDIA RELEASE

VANCOUVER, B.C.>>> Four Quebec residents have been selected by one of Canada's most respected think tanks to participate in the annual Student Leaders' Colloquium, May 12-15, 1995 - a program designed to explore solutions to Canada's social and economic problems. The Fraser Institute announced today that Mr. Stephane Gelgoot, and Mr. Carlos Rippell of Montreal, Ms. Maryse Martin of Anjou, and Mr. Max Rancourt of Sherbrooke have been selected from Bishop's University, McGill University, University of Montreal, and Vanier College to convene with 16 other Canadian students for a weekend long program of discussion and deliberation about the pressing economic policy questions of our time. The twenty students were chosen for their leadership and communication abilities. The Vancouver meeting, sponsored in part by Canadian Airlines International, is the culmination of a year long program of discussions which the Institute has hosted in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal involving over 725 students.

"These students, having been identified as some of the brightest in the country," said Dr. Michael Walker, Executive Director of the Fraser Institute, "will spend two days in an exploration of ideas with other students from across the country. The Institute's aim is to focus their minds on economic policy issues so that they are prepared to deal with the challenges they may have to face as the policy makers of tomorrow."

About the Quebec students chosen....

For the last two years she has participated in "les Jeaunes Entrepreneurs" (Junior Achievement). She is also involved with her school paper, the "Phoenix".

Max Rancourt is a second year Political Science student at Bishop's University in Lennoxville, Quebec. After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree he plans to enter a Master's degree in International Relations.

Carlos Rippell is currently enroled in his third year of an honours History/Political Science degree at McGill University. Carlos hopes to obtain a law degree and eventually work in the field of international law.
