These students from across Canada were chosen in a highly competitive process
to attend the weekend of discussion and debate in Vancouver. Moderated
by Fraser Institute policy analysts, the students educated themselves about
public policy, discussing at length key issues such as globalization, education
policy, environmental policy, health policy, economic freedom, and the
optimal size of government. Topics that were covered over the two-day event
included tuition subsidies, cultural identity, junk science, and medical
savings accounts, just to name a few.
Colloquium participant Yuri Artibise described the event as a "great opportunity
to discuss pertinent public policy issues. I wish all my university classes
had this level of debate and participation."
The colloquium also marked the first opportunity for The Fraser Institute’s
new premises to be used as a training centre. The Friday portion of the
program was spent in the Burrard Street offices, where the students enjoyed
a series of talks and discussion sessions.
